Routine Pre-birth Preparation Programme
This programme is suitable for all pregnant women without pregnancy complications. It prepares a woman's body and mind for a healthy, natural labour.
Benefits
Research shows that pre-birth acupuncture had contributed to
-
reduced medical intervention, including epidural, medical induction and caesarean section
-
shorter duration of active labour
-
improved cervical ripening process*
-
significant improvement in contraction coordination
*Studies show that pre-birth acupuncture will not cause pre-term labour. As acupuncture cannot produce any effects that the body could not produce or regulate naturally, it increases the activity of the normal ripening processes of the cervix only when a general labour readiness is present.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, acupuncture works to ensure that a woman’s Qi (vital life energy) and blood is harmonious prior to delivery. Specific points are chosen to help in
-
tonifying qi and nourishing blood
-
helps to alleviate uncomfortable pregnancy-related symptoms, including insomnia, edema and pain
-
calming the nervous system
-
promoting optimal position of the baby for birth
-
relaxing and softening pelvic ligaments to facilitate childbirth
-
ripening and dilation of cervix
Contraindications
Placenta previa, cephalopelvic disproportion, and known bleeding disorders of the mother.

Therapeutic Tui-Na
Tui-na, a form of Chinese massage, is very good at promoting relaxation and rejuvenation. It can help relieve stress, overcome fear for labour and improve sleep quality. Tui-na is also very effective in alleviating pain such as low back pain, hip pain, headache and so on. In addition, it relieves water retention and muscle fatigue which are common in late pregnancy.
